About Event

Join us for an evening exploring the intersection of sound, systems, and syntax. We’re thrilled to welcome three experts who bridge the gap between technical architecture and sonic expression. We will get introduced to designing sounds, building chord progressions and working with long-form reverbs, all in a web browser!

1. Jeremy Osztreicher (@jeremyosz) is a multidisciplinary creator interested in the intersection of technical systems and artistic expression, from generative music to movement. He has a deep obsession with how systems fuel wonder—whether that's through his astrology app Osztrology, generative synths, or dance-calendar projects.

Jeremy will demonstrate different methods of sound design using p5.js. Participants can follow along as we code a little groovebox that brings together all the elements.

2. Phil Jones (@Interstar) was a software developer and AI researcher who took a left turn into computer-based art. Now he finds "creative coder" is the best label for what he does. Though he also describes his current passion as "getting AI coding assistants to make software that helps me make other software that helps me make music".

Phil will give a demo of his library, Goldenpond – an open-source library domain-specific language for describing chord progressions and musical riffs. Its goal is to give the user a better understanding and access to "music theory" ideas, in a way optimised for programmers who make music.

3. Peter Kappus (@ABSTRAKTOR) is a London-based coder, creative technologist, musician, and artist. He helps digital teams work more effectively while building tools for experimental sound and performance. A lifelong pianist and improviser, he explores the intersection of code, music, and interaction, creating systems that invite play, listening, and emergent expression.

Peter will introduce Sarum, a browser-based instrument built in pure JavaScript that allows performers to layer extremely long reverbs in real time. The system turns sound into a living memory, where each gesture accumulates, overlaps, and evolves into dense harmonic textures. Part instrument and part bio-feedback system, the tool invites a different relationship with time, listening, and control. Peter will demonstrate how it works, share the design decisions behind it, and explore how the web's constraints can become creative advantages for building expressive, improvisational systems.

Please bring a 💻 laptop to follow along. Ideally, bring headphones or earphones, too.

🌸 About c3s

Creative coding crafts space embodies the notion of making space - physical space, head space, collaboration space - where we can get together and craft coding projects, generative artwork, new or ‘traditional’ forms of creative coding projects: anything that is born out of the interactions and inspiration that ‘space’ allows for.
