About The Climate Party

The Climate Party® is building a Scenius - collective genius - for Climate solutions in India.

Climate Parties are a series of immersive learning & ecosystem building events curated to enable interdisciplinary solutionists, either already working in or seriously considering a transition to the Climate space, to discover more of their kind across domains and cross-pollinate ideas for collaborative action.

Our climate parties across 8 cities over the past 2 years have brought together 2800+ diverse Climate stakeholders, from CXOs to students, and culminated in tangible actions.

About this immersive experience

In 2022, the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary in Mumbai was designated a Ramsar Site, recognizing it India’s first urban wetland of international importance. Every year, flocks of 1 lakh+ flamingos - travelers on the Central Asian Flyway, a global avian superhighway stretching from the Arctic to Southeast Asia - descend upon the Thane Creek and Navi Mumbai.

As a critical node in a continental migratory corridor, Mumbai becomes the backdrop of a rather serious global ecological shift as it grows while depleting its mudflats & mangroves. Flamingos' Mumbai habitat is currently facing a "stress test" from:

  • Infrastructure encroachment: shrinking physical footprint of the wetlands;

  • Pollution: Heavy plastic contamination and recurring algal blooms; and

  • Hydrological disruption: Altered tidal flows that threaten the flamingos’ food sources.

Yet, there is reason for optimism. Scientists, funders, and restoration experts are working together to revive these habitats - we're taking you to the hotspot to show exactly how at the best time of the day when the Mumbai heat won't kill you!

In collaboration with Hasten Regeneration (restoration finance), Srushti Conservation Foundation (biodiversity tracking tools), and Plastic Fischer (plastic waste management), we're taking you to the field to explore the tools of modern conservation.

What to expect?

🦩 Flamingos and migratory ecology: Get on a boat to watch & understand why flamingos choose this habitat, how migratory routes function, and why wetlands like Thane Creek are critical stops on a global journey. FREE FLAMINGO WATCHING ON A BOAT!

📡 Real-time biodiversity monitoring: Researchers from Srushti Conservation Foundation will demonstrate how tools like satellite tagging and bioacoustics help scientists track birds and measure biodiversity across landscapes

Plastic in the ecosystem: Plastic Fischer team will share insights on the scale of plastic contamination in tidal ecosystems, remedial interventions and tough ground challenges.

🌱 Restoration and long-term stewardship: Experts from Hasten Regeneration will take you through restoration project financing over long timeframes to revive degraded habitats.

This visit is a great way to learn about deep inter-connections in the natural world!

Price per person: INR 1,300/- (includes the boat rental charge)
