About Event

Dive into the world of bio-materials and sustainable textiles through this hands-on workshop experience and first edition of Chilli(ng) Offline.

Join us for a biomaterials workshop led by Summer Dean & Laiyonelth Hurtado, the artists behind The Living Thread, an interactive piece exploring the role of fashion and ecology in 2075. In this workshop, you will learn how to create algae-based yarns and textiles in community, experimenting with natural dyes and embracing radical imagination.

As artists behind The Living Thread installation, Summer and Laiyonelth will share insights into sustainable materials, textile futures, and the radical potential of seaweed. Participants will leave with their own bag of algae yarn and a recipe zine to continue exploring seaweed-based textiles at home. No prior experience is required.

This workshop takes place amidst the "Imagining Climate Futures" exhibition. The exhibit showcases 18 original works created by members of the 2025 Climate Storytelling 2075 Cohort — emerging artists, writers, and activists who envision a regenerative and just climate future fifty years from now. This exhibit marks the public premiere of Volume II of the Climate Storytelling 2075 anthology. Volume I launched during New York Climate Week 2024. Expect deeply imaginative, hopeful, and regenerative responses to the question: How do you envision a desirable climate future in the year 2075?]

This event is supported by Chilli, the digital climate action app that connects you with activists and campaigns to build an equitable future for all. It is the first edition of a five-event series to bring digital climate action offline in collaboration with Synergy Social, a community advocating for planetary wellness.

Come make new friends, take climate action, learn a new skill, and embrace the power of craft to connect and build people power. Drinks by RIVR.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the WFM Immigrant Rapid Response Fund in solidarity with frontline communities in Minnesota <3
