About Event

Are you an early-stage life science researcher with a technology worth commercializing? Learn how to secure your IP, work with your university, and launch a company the right way. Join Nucleate RTP’s virtual PATH Lecture on March 26 at 6:30 PM.

Turning academic research into a successful startup requires navigating several key legal and strategic decisions early on. In this session, Hutchison PLLC partner, John Rudd will walk through the fundamentals of commercializing university-developed technology—from understanding university licensing agreements to forming an entity around intellectual property.
The discussion will also cover early-stage funding pathways such as grants and angel investment, as well as practical considerations around IP ownership when founders are still affiliated with a university or working part-time on a startup. Designed for scientists, researchers, and first-time founders, this session will provide a practical overview of the legal building blocks needed to move innovations from the lab to the market.

The Inside lecture series is a part of Nucleate’s Professional Advancement and Training Hub (PATH) that seeks to provide free and open access insight into various aspects within life science innovation. With Inside RTP, we aim to provide a series of lectures that details the process of startup formation and scaling tailored within the North Carolina ecosystem: emphasizing regional strengths and resources such as biomanufacturing.
