The Artists Way: A 12-Week Journey to Unblock Your Creativity
What is the Artist's Way?
Do you have creative ideas but never follow through? Where you call yourself creative but haven't made anything in months? Are you burned out?
This is for that.
The Artist's Way is a 12-week creative unblocking course, originally created by Julia Cameron, that works through structured daily journaling (morning pages), weekly solo dates, and group accountability. This course is applicable for creatives of any kinds.
It's not therapy, but it will bring up the stuff that's been keeping you stuck on your creative journey: perfectionism, old wounds, and fears dressed up as practical concerns.
Why The Artist's Way?
Since its publication in 1992, The Artist's Way has sold over 5 million copies and helped countless creatives break through blocks and reconnect with their creative practice. The program's core tools, morning pages and artist dates, have had a major resurgence recently, with millions of people sharing their experiences online.
Author Elizabeth Gilbert famously credited The Artist's Way with enabling her to write Eat, Pray, Love, and rapper Doechii used the program to unlock the honest, personal storytelling that led to her viral breakthrough and eventual Grammy win for Best Rap Album.
The program works because it addresses the root of creative block: not lack of talent, but fear, perfectionism, and old stories we tell ourselves about what we're capable of.
Who this is for:
Anyone who wants to reinvigorate their life with more creativity. You can simply have a creative hobby, or benefit as a creative professional/ freelancer who wants to move past blocks, build sustainable creative habits, and connect with others on the same journey. This series is designed to benefit all kinds of creativity (visual art, music, performance, writing, design, etc.). No prior Artist's Way experience needed - just a willingness to show up honestly.
What we'll do:
Meet every Wednesday night, 8:00-9:30pm, at a café in Amsterdam (location TBA)
13 sessions total: 1 orientation + 12 weekly group sessions
You'll do the work solo throughout the week (morning pages daily, chapter reading, exercises), then we gather to discuss what came up, what you're resisting, and where you're breaking through.
Each session we meet includes a group creative exercise tied to that week's theme. We'll write, collage, draw, bedazzle, and map our blocks together.
Our group becomes your accountability structure. We'll hold each other through the uncomfortable weeks (and there will be some), and cheer on each other's wins. We will also have a WhatsApp group for members of this course.
Who will facilitate our sessions?
That's me! I'm Britt, founder of CLBHUIS, and I'll be facilitating this series after completing the program myself. I know first hand how hard it is to push through weeks where everything in you wants to quit. And that's why we're doing this together as a group. ;)
What's included:
13 sessions: 1 orientation + 12 weekly group sessions
A copy of The Artist's Way book (if you don't have it already)
Materials for in-session creative exercises
Access to a small, committed group (max 12 people) who are doing the work alongside you
What's required:
Attendance at all 13 sessions (life happens, but this only works with consistency)
Daily morning pages practice (3 pages of stream-of-consciousness handwriting every morning)
Weekly solo tasks from the book
Willingness to show up even when it's hard
A dedicated sketchbook for your exercises
This is a 12-week commitment to actually unblocking whatever's been keeping you from making the work you want to make.
If you're ready for that... we'll see you in September.
