Masaru Mizuochi, Research Fellow at UAL Creative Computing Institute: Green Diffusion: connecting generative AI, nature and life
In his talk, Masaru Mizuochi will present his artistic work that explores the connection between image-generative AI models, nature, and life. His latest work, "Green Diffusion," buries a real apple in the soil, highlighting the connection between AI and nature. His work, which is related to stage direction, always explores the connection between space and story. He will also present a series of past works that connect to his current research into robotics performance, which focuses on the diversity of generative images.
Masaru Mizuochi is a media artist who pursues research in video-based expression while creating artworks and directing stage productions. Specializing in theatrical-style interpretation, his work explores multiple perspectives where humanity and human creativity are at the forefront of our digital age. His recent work, Green Diffusion, was featured in the CVPR AI Art Award. He is currently a research fellow at the UAL Creative Computing Institute, and his other work has been featured in WIRED, SXSW, SIGGRAPH Asia, and more.
Xinde Ren, Digital Artist: A Hybrid Way of Creating with AI
This talk will present Xinde Ren's practice of working with different media and facing the tension between traditional artistic methods and digital technologies, especially artificial intelligence. How can we retain the fleeting pixel lights and give digital work a physical form through handcrafted techniques? Looking back at how past and present artists responded to similar shifts has helped Ren understand her own position. By sharing insights from her work, Ren will reflect on how artists today might find their language through technology, and what sensitivities or decisions still remain uniquely human.
Xinde Ren’s work spans from hand drawing to deep learning algorithms, seeking a path to freedom inspired by everyday experiences and speculative fiction. She responds to the human desire of escaping regulation, where radiance, unease, concealment, and allure all stem from a longing for deeper connection. Ren is currently pursuing an MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she also completed a First-Class Honours degree in BSc Digital Arts Computing.
Etienne Naude, Imperial College & RCA Graduate: Lock Picking Robot
This talk will present a lock picking robot, which uses wires to try different combinations, able to pick a high security lock in minutes. The robot uses high precision servo motors and a steel 3D printed key to achieve this. It is built as an alternative to master keys, since this would still allow someone to access a lock while being more explicit that they don't own the lock.
Etienne Naude is a recent graduate from the Master's in Innovation Design Engineering at Imperial College and the Royal College of Art with comprehensive industry experience in design and robotics.
