About Event

Calling all beginner crocheters! Whether you're brand-new or just finished your first WIP, you won't want to miss this cozy in-person crochet class. In this workshop, you'll learn how to make a beginner-friendly triangle scarf, following fiber artist Jessie Quinn's "Souvenir Scarf" pattern (releasing in January 2026). All materials are provided, including the yarn, crochet hook, and a print-out of the pattern, plus other goodies to help you get started. Burden of Proof will also be pouring up non-alcoholic cocktails to keep your creativity flowing.

Please arrive a few minutes early to the class so that you can get settled in before we start. The beginning of the class will cover information on the basic crochet stitches required for the pattern, with time and materials to practice before diving into the pattern instructions. Since crochet is a slow craft, you likely won't complete the scarf in this class (if you do, please share your superpowers with us!). However, Jessie will go over finishing the project and you're welcome to take video of the final steps to refer to when the time comes—it's very simple, we promise.

About the Souvenir Scarf: The souvenir scarf is a triangle scarf pattern inspired by Jessie's love of traveling, and collecting yarn along the way. The pattern is specifically designed for all of the single skeins of yarn she's stuffed into her suitcase over the years—ones that aren't quite big enough to make something substantial, but too pretty to leave behind. It can be made from just 1 to 2 skeins and works up quickly, using a simple increase method. The result: a bandana-like triangle scarf (or a large shawl if you've got some extra room in your luggage for a few more skeins) that goes with everything. For this class, students will be provided with 1 skein of Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Merino Wool, but you can make this project over and over again using any yarn in your stash.

About Jessie: Jessie Quinn is a lifestyle journalist, fiber artist, and the pattern designer behind Scrap Yarn. She also runs Los Angeles Stitch & Bitch, a local monthly stitch club dedicated to fostering community amongst knitting, crochet, needlepoint, embroidery, and sewing enthusiasts alike.
