Climate Debate: The Road to Wisdom
Event Description
Climate change is a dynamic, complex global problem that is hard to solve. In order to make meaningful progress, we need active listening, questioning, and learning from different perspectives.
The event is an interactive experiment where we would love to explore 3 most controversial climate topics that LA stakeholders would love to explore with the support of AI models. The debate is not about the win/lose for the side that participants pick but to clarify and identify the key insights, variables that we should consider to avoid unintended harms.
The collective learning that we co-create together will set up a foundation for a deliberative democracy that fosters long-term social prosperity.
Recommended Audience
Aspiring Climate Fellows: Hold different attitudes about specific climate topics.
Social Climate Influencers: Communicate the potential best decision with trade-offs.
Corporate Investment: Reduce the decision blind spots before making long-term commitments.
The workshop's main value will come from discussion and deep reflection. No climate background is needed, but a friendly attitude to listen to different perspectives is highly appreciated.
Expected Outcomes
✅ Analyze the complex climate topics with supportive evidence and counterexamples
✅ Experience the positive value of deliberative democracy that minimizes conflicts of interests
✅ Prioritize the climate actions with the highest positive leverage and lowest stakeholder harms.
The session may be too short with limited supporting evidence to make the best decision. Nevertheless, we wish that most participants are able to learn, reflect, or even support the rational conversation through climate debates.
